We use your signal in two ways. First, to determine your location using your phone GPS, and second, to communicate your location or status updates (such as alerts or check-ins) to your responders.
StaySafe only accesses your location data when you are actively running a session, have triggered an alert, and/or if you have a reminder set up in the app.
We will only ever share your location data during a session, or if you have triggered an alert.
How it Works
We will first try to connect to your data (via WiFi or 4G/3G), if that is not available we will attempt to connect via GPRS or Edge.
When lone workers operate in areas where a WiFi or data connection cannot always be made, the StaySafe app will automatically switch to Low Signal Mode. In this mode, session functions and alerts will continue to be sent to the Hub via 2G SMS. The user's last known location will be shown in the Hub and updated when an alert is triggered.
NOTE: This feature is only available in selected countries and must be enabled by your organisation's admins.
What if I Have No Signal at All?
Currently, UK network providers cover 80% of UK geography for 2G signal and only 69% for 3G/4G mobile coverage. So, the StaySafe app covers the majority of the country.
If you are in a location with no signal at all, session expiry and missed check-in alerts will still be triggered in your Hub. This means that if you begin a session while connected, alerts will be sent if you fail to check-in.
If you have no connection, you will be able to not raise a panic alert, as we will have no way to contact your responders.
It is always advisable to consider the signal availability of travelling during the Lone Working session. You should enter Notes when you start a session in a remote area if you can.
If you are in a remote area, it's best to add some more time to your session if you are slightly delayed.
