One of the main feature of the StaySafe app, is that is allows your employer to see your location while you are working alone and running a live session. This is necessary so that in the event you require help, they will be able to find you.

Collecting and sending location data can drain your phone battery. Most recent phone batteries have enough power for a session to be run on our default setting for the full day. However, if you use your device heavily, or if its battery has degraded, you may wish to reduce the power intake of the StaySafe app.

By default, StaySafe prioritises location accuracy to make sure help finds you quickly in an emergency. If you want to reduce the amount of battery the app uses, you can change this.

Changing your Battery Settings

To change this setting, go to Settings > Battery Life

You can then adjust the battery setting, by dragging the slider to one of the three options, Accuracy, Balanced and Battery.

We use two main criteria when updating your location information - location moved and time elapsed. By extending the distance between these intervals, we can reduce battery usage.

This chart should help you decide how you want to balance battery life and location accuracy.

Accuracy

Send more frequent, higher accuracy updates, at the expense of shorter battery life.

Balanced

Aims for a good balance between location updates and battery life.

Battery

Send fewer updates with lower accuracy.

Update Interval

The minimum possible interval between new location updates.

Distance Moved

The minimum distances the user must move for a location update to be generated.

Desired Accuracy

Best for navigation

it offers the highest possible accuracy and uses additional sensor data to facilitate navigation apps.

Device must be plugged in.

Best for accuracy when you want very high accuracy but don’t need the same level for navigation apps.

Best for battery, gives location data to within ten meters of the desired target.

Note: it is best to adjust your battery settings inside the app, instead of using your phones battery saving, as this may prevent your location being sent to your responders.
