StaySafe has been integrated with Garmin for several years, and with our latest app update (Version 1.15), the integration has reached new heights. Now, users can pair their Garmin devices with the StaySafe app, providing a more comprehensive safety solution.
To make this integration work seamlessly, ensure you have a Garmin device with an active pro subscription, ideally the unlimited plan. This subscription is crucial because the functionality utilizes messages on your Garmin device to communicate with the StaySafe hub, potentially sending thousands of messages with regular use.
In addition to an active subscription, your Garmin explore portal needs to be directed towards the StaySafe Platform. Refer to this article for detailed instructions on how to set this up.
To activate the Garmin integration for your StaySafe hub, send a request to support@staysafeapp.com. If it's included in your current package, the integration will be swiftly enabled for you.
Once these prerequisites are met, locate the Garmin inReach option in your StaySafe settings. Currently, we support the following models:
Group 1: | Group 2: |
- inReach Mini - inReach Explorer - inReach Explorer+ | - inReach Mini 2 - inReach Messenger |
pair your Garmin device and smartphone through the phone's Bluetooth settings. Once completed, your Garmin device will appear in the StaySafe settings. | pairing is done exclusively through the StaySafe settings. |
Once connected to the StaySafe app, your Garmin device will seamlessly transmit alerts to the StaySafe hub via the following priority order:
1. Wifi
2. Data Connection (3G, 4G, or 5G)
3. SMS (low signal mode)
4. Garmin messages
In Satellite mode, the app will automatically pair with devices in the StaySafe hub. Tracking points sent via the Garmin device will be displayed under the app user currently paired with that device. Note that if tracking isn't initiated on the Garmin device, only app locations will be shown in the hub. If both the Garmin device and the phone have a data connection, both location points will be displayed, potentially causing slight discrepancies due to satellite network latency.
Before using the Garmin device, it's crucial to conduct a test to ensure a connection to the satellite network. These devices require a direct line of sight to the sky and may take some time to acquire their first fix onto the satellites if they've been powered off. Keep in mind that using these devices indoors may lead to errors in functionality.
