StaySafe App Notifications

Find out how StaySafe alerts work across Apple and Android devices and what settings are needed to ensure notifications are received, especially when using silent mode, Focus Mode, or in-car Bluetooth connections.

For Audible Alerts, this feature must be turned on within the StaySafe Hub and in the App.

Apple: For AirPods and other Apple devices (including CarPlay), alerts can still be heard if notifications are enabled and the “Announce Notifications” setting is turned on within iOS (Settings > StaySafe > Announce Notifications > On).

The phone sound must be enabled, and the device should not be set to silent mode.

Android: In the StaySafe App, go to Audible Alerts and toggle on “Override System Volume.”

For all devices, notification settings must also be enabled to ensure alerts are not missed, particularly when the phone is on silent, as system restrictions may otherwise prevent sound from playing.

Rather than put the phone onto silent mode, use a Focus Mode (e.g. “Work”) and allow the StaySafe app’s notifications to break through in this mode.

Car Notifications

If the user is playing music in their car, the volume may briefly lower when a notification appears, but the alert itself may not be audible. This can vary depending on the vehicle, but in most cases, audio reminders will not play through car speakers when connected via Bluetooth.

Enabling persistent notifications allows a user to change the banner style in the device settings for the app from temporary to persistent. If they do this, notifications for the app will remain as a persistent banner on the lock screen until it is manually cleared, or until they have logged into their device.

We recommend starting a Driving Mode session when travelling between locations, as this suppresses check-in notifications for the duration of the journey and helps ensure your focus remains on the road.
