The Garmin inReach is an essential device for lone working, providing satellite communication and GPS tracking in remote areas. To maximize its effectiveness and ensure your safety, follow these best practices.

Preparation:

  • Test: Test your inReach device to ensure it is functioning correctly before you go out to a remote area.

  • Pair device: Pair your inReach device with the app while you are in an area with a strong data signal. This ensures a smooth pairing process and necessary updates.

  • Starting Session: Always start your app session with a paired inReach device in areas with strong signal coverage.

Battery Management:

  • Full charge: Ensure both your inReach device and phone are fully charged before starting your session.

  • Extra Power: Carry a portable charger to keep your devices charged if necessary.

Running a session:

  • App Events: Use the app to send important session events such as check-ins and panic alerts. SOS on the inReach should be a last resort.

Device Management:

  • Keep a clear line of sight to the sky for optimal satellite connectivity. This will ensure the session events are sent via the app.

  • Bluetooth Connectivity: Keep the Bluetooth connection active between your inReach device and your phone while remote working. Do not disconnect until you have finished lone working.

  • Tracking: Where necessary, enable tracking on the inReach device, and adjust the tracking interval based on the battery life and required detail of your movements. We recommend enabling the autotrack functionality.

By adhering to these best practices, you can ensure your Garmin inReach device operates efficiently, providing reliable communication and navigation support during your lone working sessions.
