These devices are paired to your phone using native Bluetooth pairing. Follow the below steps to get your Garmin inReach Explorer or Explorer+ set up and ready to use.
Note: We recommend pairing the device while you have a data connection (WIFI or Cellular), and doing a test before heading out.
Step 1: Pair the Garmin inReach with your phone via your phone's Bluetooth settings. This involves opening the Garmin inReach settings > Bluetooth > pair device > scan for new devices > open phone Bluetooth settings > select device.
Step 2: Open the StaySafe app
Step 3: Tap on settings
Step 4: Select Garmin inReach
Step 6: Choose the device to connect it to the app
Step 7: Once the Garmin is connected, you will see the inReach status screen with the name of the Garmin, the connection status and the battery level
Step 8: You are now ready to use your Satellite mode with the app
Top Tips:
Start a session on the app before going out to a remote area
Use the app to check in, extend sessions, end sessions and panic
Do not press SOS on the Garmin inReach device if you need assistance, use the app
While using satellite mode your location updates are sent directly from your Garmin inReach to StaySafe using the tracking function. To enable the location to be updated in StaySafe, ensure you have tracking turned on.
Do not disconnect Bluetooth while running a StaySafe session
Make sure you have updated your Staysafe app to the latest version (1.15)
